"A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men." Prov. 18:16 KJV.
God told the prophet Samuel to anoint David, as the next king of Israel. I am sure David was astonished and felt proud that he was chosen to be the next king of Israel. Let’s be honest, how would you feel if you were chosen to be the next President or Prime Minister of your country.
Even though David was chosen and anointed by God, he did not go to the palace and sit on the throne right away. He went back to life as usual. He continued to sing praises to God and played his harp as he took care of his father’s flock. David even faced a lion and a bear. He was in training and did not even know it. David had no idea that his whole life was about to change. He was soon summoned to the palace to stand before the man whom he would succeed. Even though we may be chosen and anointed by God, we must remain faithful until the appointed time.
One day, an evil spirit from God troubled Saul and a musician was needed to play music so that Saul can be comforted. Can you guess whose name was called? David! One of the servants said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him, 1 Samuel 16:18 KJV. Wow! Someone had been looking at David all this time. A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men, Proverbs 18:16 KJV.
Though David was skilled in playing the harp, it was God who created the perfect opportunity for David to go to the palace. You do not have to make things happen for yourself. God Himself will do it. As you are waiting for the set time, allow God to develop you. Go through the process, work on yourself and develop your skills. It was the same for Joseph. He went through many difficult times, but he remained faithful to God. Joseph gift of interpreting dreams made room for him.
My favorite part of both David and Joseph story is that the Lord was with them. The gift God had given them, made room for them!
